Community Work

Mateya Safari Lodge is located within the Madikwe Game Reserve, in the North West Province. Local villages with a high level of poverty surround the Reserve, the majority of the lodge staff originates from these villages, as to ensure that the communities benefit from the existence of the reserve and lodges, financially and socially.
Training is provided for staff members in all different hospitality departments. This process has been in place for the past 15 years and the local community is already bearing the fruit of this, a majority of the contractors, like wood collecting and gate security, as to only ?mention a few, originates from the local community and job opportunities are created in this way.
It was with this in mind that we have identified an area in the local community that needed our support. We have sponsored the building of a new crèche, within the Molatedi Village. The new building is a great benefit to the community as the old building was a construction of old wood and metal, which did not cater for the children’s needs, 36 children are enrolled in the school.
The new building have two separate classrooms, a kitchen and a baby room. The new school building has been build out of brick and is now more comfortable than the old school. The project commenced in June 2008 and is finished and has been handed over to the local community.
