Werner was born and raised in the city of Johannesburg, South Africa and has been part of the Mateya Safari Lodge team since 2009.
Werner always knew that his ultimate passion was nature and photography which in time proved a valuable asset to his career as he is not only a FGASA and trails qualified guide but also a published photographer. He spent many years visiting different game reserves in Southern Africa which allowed him the opportunity to observe animals in their natural environment, learning their behaviour and in turn enabling him to capture the “perfect shot”
Werner began his career as a guide in the world famous Kruger National Park where he soon realized that walking safaris would become another one of his passions as it bought him closer to the smaller aspects of nature.
Shortly after starting his career at Mateya Safari Lodge, Werner became the Assistant Manager and Head Guide from 2010-2019 and after spending a great deal of time and experience in this position, Werner was promoted to General Manager along with his wife Christine in July 2019
Wayne was born in Johannesburg South Africa and is the newest member of the Mateya Safari Lodge team, starting in 2020.
Even with growing up in the city, Wayne has always been passionate about the outdoors. In 2009 he enrolled in the Bhejane nature training course based in Kwazulu Natal. Part of this course meant 6 months of full theoretical training to become a qualified guide and 6 months of placement as an intern at a lodge where he learnt all the practical necessities of the guiding industry.
He started his career as a junior field guide in 2010 at Kapama Private Game Reserve located just outside of Hoedspruit where he worked himself up into the senior head guide position. After leaving Kapama in 2015 he joined the Elephant Plains Game Lodge team in the Sabi Sand before he found his way to Madikwe in 2017. He started his career in Madikwe as a senior guide but eventually took over as the head guide and apprentice guide mentor.
Wayne is a FGASA level 2 guide with 7 years walking experience in Big 5 and Dangerous game areas. A decade after training as a guide, he still remains as passionate about what he does as the day he started. Wayne also enjoys birding as well as wildlife photography.
Devine was born in the Welverdiend Village, west of the Kruger National Park, South Africa. He has been surrounded by the bush all of his life which has allowed his knowledge and passion for the bushveld to expand in many different areas within his career. He did his tracker training in the Manyeleti Game Reserve in 2007 and started his career at Honeyguide in 2008.
He found his way to Mateya Safari Lodge in the year 2012 where he worked as a tracker for a few years before qualifying as a guide in 2016. Devine then went back to the Kruger National Park where he gained more experience as a qualified guide. Not very long after his move to Kruger did Devine find his way back to Mateya Safari Lodge in 2020 where he continues his passion of being in the bush as a guide.
Devine loves being out in the wild as it is a part of his heritage and his passion lays within the conservation of these beautiful animals
